Our Concept pays homage to the Southernmost part of India and the neighboring island of Srilanka. Two countries are separated by the Park Strait, a narrow strait that separates the state of Tamil Nadu in India from the Jaffna district of the island nation of Srilanka. There are huge political and socio-cultural ties between the Southern Indian states of Kerala and Tamilnadu and Sri Lanka. Similarities and differences are to be celebrated and that is what Copra aims to do through its cuisine and design.
The menu features dishes from Chef Sri’s childhood things he enjoyed from street carts, toddy shops, carnivals, weddings, festivals, seafood barbecues, and shacks on the beach from his native Kerala. Preparations that have their roots in family traditions, and recipes passed on by his grandmother, mother, mother-in-law, and aunts. Copra will source fresh local spices from the coastal regions in combination with fresh heirloom seasonal ingredients from Northern California. Local delicacies made with fermented rice and grains like Appams (Hopper) and Toddy flatbreads will be highlights
We kindly ask you to inform us if children will be part of your dining party so we can arrange suitable seating, given our limited availability for stroller-friendly tables and lack of high chairs.
While the dining room typically fills up with reservations, we save most of our bar and a table or two each night for walk ins.
CHEF SRI
Chef/OwnerInnovator of the Cal-Indian culinary genre and the most decorated Indian chef cooking in the United States today. COPRA is a tribute to Chef Sri’s heritage and making. A native of Kerala, he learned to cook in his Grandmother’s kitchen which solidified his natural affinity towards spices. COPRA will allow you to experience the flavors from his world, never quite been showcased before, allowing you to have an authentic experience through a unique visual language creating a truly one-of-kind story and restaurant journey. A Progressive take on traditional coastal cuisine, that speaks to both the similarities and distinctions. The highest quality fresh stone ground spices straight from the subcontinent, combined with locally sourced produce and Californian seasonal ingredients, presented with an artistic flair that personifies the Chef Sri food language.
Copra is special in its two distinct spaces for Private Dining opportunities. For groups with 17+ guests, private dining becomes necessary to accommodate everyone comfortably. Additionally, we offer the option to make large parties private for those seeking a more exclusive experience.
The Mezzanine makes a perfect space to host an intimate dinner, corporate meeting, or a fun gathering. It is adaptive in the number of people it can host going up to as many as 45 for a seated dinner & 55 for a standing reception with a private bar. Our Greenhouse space lends itself beautifully to being a party within a party. Located adjacent to the main dining room, it creates the feeling of being both part of the restaurant while still being able to host your own private gathering within that setting for up to 32 guests.
