Contemporary jazz composer and guitarist Obiedo has had an eclectic musical background during his youth spent in the San Francisco Bay Area. The sounds of Miles Davis, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Henry Mancini and the popular sounds of Motown Records influenced his early musical persona. Probably the greatest influence on his embryonic career, however, was the James Brown revue, whose funky, percussive guitar sounds was the platform on which Obiedo built his technique.
At Keys he features his two working ensembles including:
The Ray Obiedo Group featuring Peter Horvath – piano, Dan Feiszli – acoustic bass, Jeff Cressman – trombone and Phil Hawkins – drums.
Ray Obiedo: The Latin Jazz Ensemble with Jeff Cressman – trombone, Murray Low – piano, Michael Spiro – percussion, Dave Belove – bass, Phil Hawkins – drums.
Happy Hour 5pm – 6pm. Doors open at 6pm, shows begin at 7pm and 9pm.
Students and IMA Members can purchase tickets for $15 in person for the 7pm and 9pm shows and may attend 11pm shows free of charge (with proof of valid ID).
