Located in downtown Carpinteria, about 8 blocks up from the “World’s Safest Beach”, it is quite common to encounter hundreds of locals and visitors sporting their sandals and beachwear as they stroll through this laid-back farmers’ market. Home to the annual 3-day avocado festival, which attracts over 100,000 people strong each year, the base of the surrounding foothills is a thriving agricultural sector. Greenhouses are brimming with fresh cut flowers, which are shipped all over the world (and a major supplier to the annual New Year’s Day Rose Parade in Pasadena). In addition to avocadoes, cherimoyas and citrus are also very prolific in the area. Local Carpinteria-based farms participating at this weekly market include; Frecker Farms, Foley Farms/Red Hen Cannery, Caitlon Ranch, Rancho Santa Cecilia, Myriad Flowers, and Westland Floral. About 22-30 certified agricultural producers can be found at this weekly farmers market, depending on the season.
