Henry’s is located inside Graduate Berkeley, the 144-room hotel occupying what formerly was the iconic Hotel Durant, and is a celebration of the city’s unique sense of style, UC Berkeley’s vivid history and beloved Golden Bears. With the hotel’s recent renovation, Graduate Berkeley pays homage to this historic building’s roots and UC Berkeley founder, Henry Durant, through its distinct design and revitalization of Henry’s, the hotel’s beloved restaurant and bar, known for being a game day watering hole and neighborhood staple for Golden Bear fans and hotel guests.
Henry’s will mark a new collaboration between old friends. Chris Kronner worked with Chad Robertson and Elizabeth Pruiett at Bar Tartine in San Francisco and has known the pair since 2001. At Henry’s, with the support of Tartine Bakery, Kronner will offer an exciting and approachable addition to the Berkeley dining landscape. In a true collaborative effort Jeffrey Hayden, former chef of San Francisco’s beloved Del Popolo and Justin Huffman, Chef of KronnerBurger, will join General Manager Howie Correa, formerly of Chez Panisse & Gloucester’s Short & Main, Julian Cox, former head of Chicago’s Three Dots and a Dash and current leader of Tartine’s bar programs, and Nicole Rossi, former general manager of Kronnerburger to produce a reinvigorated Henry’s built on a massive collective amount of hospitality experience. Henry’s will expand on the group’s commitment to approachable, inclusive hospitality reviving a historic hub of Berkeley dining, civic, and campus culture.
We are excited to bring new energy to the historic Henry’s location. In furtherance of the bar’s legacy, Henry’s will be a bustling, joyous, meeting place. While paying respect to history, the restaurant and bar will be buoyed by contemporary cuisine, and culture.
